Job Summary:
The Software Developer is responsible for ensuring website compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) and AODA standards. This role involves performing accessibility audits, remediating issues, developing Google Analytics queries, and providing knowledge transfer to ministry teams. The developer will also contribute to search engine optimization and improve website visibility. Location: Ontario, Canada, Responsibilities:
- Ensure website is 100% AODA compliant.
- Perform website audits to identify and remediate WCAG compliance issues.
- Ensure all new/updated content/code conforms to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
- Comply with AODA standards and use Assistive Technology tools for testing.
- Collaborate with Ministry teams to use OPS Toolkits for WCAG Level A and Level AA conformance testing.
- Develop queries to generate monthly site usage from Google Analytics.
- Provide recommendations to increase website usage and prevent connection drop-offs.
- Perform search engine optimization to improve website visibility.
- Provide knowledge transfer, training, and upskilling to ministry teams upon request.
- Develop WordPress websites, customizations, and plugins.
- Analyze online environment to deliver fully functional tracking codes.
- Design, code, test, debug, and document applications.
- Elicit and document information from stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Conduct design walkthrough sessions with project team.
- Provide user and system documentation as required. Required Skills & Certifications:
- 5+ years of professional web development experience, with a focus on WordPress.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
- Strong experience in developing custom WordPress themes and plugins.
- In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and compliance regulations, with a focus on auditing and reporting.
- Highly proficient in WCAG 2.2 / website accessibility requirements under the AODA.
- Demonstrated experience in accessibility testing domain and testing process life cycle.
- Strong experience in developing WordPress websites, customizations and plugins.
- Strong experience in Google Analytics. Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with accessibility tools & technologies (JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, Voiceover, Talkback, GAT, WAT, CCA, MS Insight, AXE, WAVE, Inspect).
- IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or related Accessibility certifications.
