Smallies are tearing up portions of our waters west of the lodge. Have produced 100+ 3 ½ to 5 pounders and are now finished spawning, due to a rather cold June in the mid-40’s up to mid-70’s. The smallies on Separation and Lount Lake are just starting. The males just finished their nests early this week so the hefty females will be moving in the coming week. We have been catching some nice smallies just out in deeper water, should be a blast for the next couple weeks.
The walleye have been going strong ever since opener. Lots of over slot size in the 22’-28’ category. At times it has been hard to get the eaters for shore lunch. Everything is too big and lots of numbers as well. Water is a little murky due to very low water in early spring, have had several good rains and water is turbid and about normal level now. Fishing is fantastic as usual in our bays. Catching walleye, northern, smallies, and perch everywhere in our numerous shallow 5-10ft depts.
Northern- our guests have been catching lots of pike in the mid 30’s to high 40’ range; no 50 inchers yet but that will come late in July, August, and September.
Had some new groups of guests in this week and they were all excited and rebooked prior to leaving for next year. Said they have fished a lot of places in Ontario and Manitoba, but never had fishing even close to what they had on Separation’s river system during this trip. Was fantastic and hated to leave, but will more than likely be back for years to come. “Think our guys have finally found a home away from home”
