The community of Mindemoya, located in the middle of the Municipality, hosts the business and service centre of Central Manitoulin. The downtown core and near residential area is also serviced with municipal water and sewage systems. The surrounding communities of Providence Bay, Spring Bay, Big Lake and Sandfield are a short drive away.
The Municipality of Central Manitoulin has one elementary school located in Mindemoya. Children are bussed in from Spring Bay, Sandfield, Big Lake, Silver Bay and Rockville. The Rainbow District School Board operates. Secondary students are bussed to in neighbouring M'Chigeeng, approximately 15 minutes from Mindemoya.
